Meet the Chiropractors

Dr. Robert Ballantyne is the principle practitioner at Chiropractic Care Australasia. Rob is a second-generation Chiropractor and was introduced to Chiropractic from an early age by his father who was a Chiropractor. Rob’s father Robert (Bob) Brodie (D.C) was a Canadian Chiropractor who graduated from Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) in 1963 and migrated to Australia in the early 1970’s. Bob was instrumental in helping set-up the Chiropractic program at RMIT University, formerly the ‘Phillip Institute’ throughout the 1980’s.

Dr Robert Ballantyne (D.C)

Rob has always had a passion for the science of the human body and decided that a natural and conservative approach to a healthy body is one that made sense. Rob has an interest in the treatment of a wide range of neuromusculoskeletal conditions especially involving acute spinal injuries like disc bulge and herniated discs, as well as extremity sprains and strains to the ankle, knee, elbow, wrist and TMJ.

Although being exposed to Chiropractic from a young age Rob and his family found a distinct difference and points of benefit in the Gonstead System of Chiropractic. Since this time, it has been his passion to not only utilize this method for his patients but to help grow Gonstead Chiropractic in Australia.

Rob’s chiropractic story

Rob graduated from RMIT University in 2012. Rob began his studies at RMIT University in 2006 where he initially studied Biomedical Science, he then transferred into the Chiropractic program in 2007. Rob completed his Bachelor of Health Science (Chiropractic) degree in 2009. He then worked and travelled throughout 2010 and spent some time in Europe and North America. It was during this time while he was in the United States, he was able to visit the renowned Gonstead Clinic in Mt Horeb Wisconsin and attend the ‘Homecoming’ seminar there. Rob also visited the Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport Iowa which was established in 1897 by Daniel David Palmer and was the first school of Chiropractic in the world. After returning from his trip in 2011 Rob began his post-graduate studies in the Master of Clinical Chiropractic program at RMIT University. During his final year in 2012 Rob completed his placement and internship with Dr. Ian Rossborough (D.C) at Chiropractic Excellence in Parkdale, Victoria. Following graduation Rob continued to practice at Chiropractic Excellence for the following seven years.

Rob has now attended over twenty domestic and international Gonstead seminars. As a result of this pursuit to learn and develop as a Chiropractor, Rob has been fortunate enough to gain invaluable clinical knowledge from numerous locally and internationally recognised Chiropractors and academics, particularly those trained in the Gonstead method. Rob now exclusively practices this hands-on and specific system at Chiropractic Care Australasia in Glen Iris, Melbourne Australia.

dr michelle leong melbourne chiropractor

Dr Michelle Leong (D.C)

Dr Michelle Leong was born and grew up in Malaysia. She speaks three languages including; English, Mandarin, Malay and continues to practice her Cantonese as well. Outside of her hours in the practice with patients, she enjoys activities such as; running, singing and cooking.

In her younger years growing up Michelle experienced health challenges herself such as asthma and irregular menstrual cycles and she benefited greatly from natural medicine. This sparked her interest in the pursuit of a more holistic approach to health and health care alternatives. Before Michelle came to Australia seeking to further her education, she had commenced a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Chiropractic at the International Medical University (IMU) Malaysia. She then spent another three years at their partner university the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) here in Melbourne to complete the 5-year long chiropractic degree.

Michelle has since developed a passion in the art of delivering a specific chiropractic adjustment to remove nerve pressure and restore health to the body. She felt that the Gonstead System of Chiropractic gave her systematic guidelines in effective case management and resonated with the overall chiropractic philosophy. Whilst it takes dedication, perseverance and practice to acquire the knowledge and skills of a Gonstead practitioner, Michelle recognised that it gave her the tools and understanding to best serve her patients.

In Michelle’s final year of study she was given the opportunity to commence her 4th year student placement at Chiropractic Care Australian with Dr Rob Ballantyne in 2019. Following her final year student placement we were lucky enough for Michelle to take on an associate position here with us.

Michelle has a special interest in the topic of women’s and children’s health. Growing up in a multicultural country, she feels very grateful and honoured to be able to serve specific chiropractic to the community and looks forward to helping every patient improve their health at Chiropractic Care Australasia.

Chiropractic Assistant

Hi, I’m Steph. I started out as a patient at Chiropractic Care Australasia. When I’m not at the clinic, I am studying a Bachelor of Education to eventually become a Primary school teacher. I have recently decided to change my career path from fashion to teaching which is a big change for me, but working with Rob and the team makes it so much easier. Outside of work, I love to see family and friends, go to the gym and spend time with my animals, Mike & Gigi.

Kate
Chiropractic Assistant/Office Manager

Hi I’m Kate. I’ve been involved in the chiropractic industry in varying forms since I was 17 years old, first as a receptionist, and then, after seeing the amazing results other people had, I decided to try it out for myself and it was life changing for me.

I’ve since gone on to develop a keen interest in health and wellbeing. I have studied Allied Health Services and Kinesiology, a field in which I now practice, and I intend on continuing learning forever. I’m passionate about helping people be able to live life and work towards their optimum potential, and it never ceases to impress me what amazing things the human body is capable of if we just remove any interference and let it get on with things!

Chiropractic Assistant

Hi, my name is Lexi. I was first introduced to the benefits of Chiropractic care in my teenage years after sustaining an injury to my lower back, whilst playing sport. Since this time, I have developed an interest in alternative health therapies, particularly chiropractic.

When not supporting the practice, I work within the social welfare sector as a HR/recruitment specialist primarily within mental health and child/family services.

When not in the office, I enjoy getting away to the country to visit our family farm, hiking, horse riding and spending time at the beach during summer. Just being outdoors!
